lady godiva, what a charmer

yep, coventry is/was the home of lady godiva, she was the wife of lord leofric of mercia. now, according to legend (or a “poem” that seems to be a subject of debate amongst some) leofric decided to raise the amount of taxes due from the citizens of mercia. godiva being kind-hearted and sympathetic to the people, protested this act by her husband. the dude then “issued” a challenge: if she rode thru town naked and if the citizens remained inside, he would lift the taxation. she accepted his challenge. upon the day and time agreed to she dropped her robe, got on her horse and well you know the rest

oh, one more salient point: this dude below, let his curiosity (or hormones; if they had hormones back in medieval times) get the best of him and so he snuck a peep, only (legend has it) to be struck blind for his efforts

so – ahem – let that be a lesson to you “sneak-a-peepers”

peace
