i wonder if the pope not returning my phone call has any significance . . .
nah, i’m sure the dude has other things on his mind, you know like world peace and helping old people. oh wait, he’s not in the miss america contest. or is he . . .
this is my new favorite bridge - tower bridge is not as well-known as london bridge, i think, but then london bridge is in arizona, down around lake havasu (the ‘real’ london bridge that is) tower bridge is well, still here . . . for now, mr cameron might be selling it to pay for his big society tomorrow, so who knows . . .
the clock at big ben is one of those things, like the eifel tower and the statue of liberty, that you instantly recognize as being somewhere in the world, yet it’s hard to find if you’re not in the right place – true story, you can’t see it if you’re in covent garden, or on piccadilly circus as i explained on numerous occasions to, well, nice people from somewhere else
the eye, or ‘the’ london eye, used to be a must-do for folk from the north and geordies, nobody i know from london gives it a second thought, sort of like back in the bay area, nobody goes out of his/her way to check out the golden gate bridge or fisherman’s wharf, too much hassle and too many tourist; then again i guess we had too much stuff to take care of
i don’t know if this needs any explanation, dude just stands on the green eyeing the city across the river while ignoring the bridge behind him; must think he’s in san francisco, hanging out on fisherman’s wharf, the bridge and alcatraz behind and beneath him
part of a really moving tribute to the few that the many owed so much to, courtesy of sir winston – the speech i mean – guess i should just forget about the pope returning my call, then again maybe i should give him a couple of days still . . .
peace
